Geschichten aus dem Wiener Wald

Feature Film, AT 1979, 96 min, dOF

The famous filming of Ödön von Horvath’s play revolves around middle-class catastrophes and shows Hanno Pöschl in his first major cinema role: “dear, sweet” Marianne, daughter of the so-called Zauberkönig, the king of magic, is engaged to the narrow-minded butcher Oskar. She leaves him because she has fallen in love with the lady’s man, Alfred, who later abandons her and their child. Geschichten aus dem Wiener Wald provides a vicious, grim, but also humorous and satirical look back at the morbid situation on the eve of the national socialist takeover of power.
