Das erste Jahrhundert des Walter Arlen

Documentary Film, AT 2018, 94 min, 20.3. OmeU / 24.3. OmdU

A rare piece of contemporary history and a deeply touching portrait of Walter Arlen who was driven by the Nazis from Vienna to exile in the U.S. in 1939. The film accompanies the ninety-eightyear- old composer—also on his journey back to his former homeland. The story Arlen tells is a moving one—and not only in conversation: the mourning of losses, the fear and trauma he lived through, and the experience of exile—all are part of his music, which Stephanus Domanig subtly weaves into the film.
