When Ervin Tahirović dreams of Foča, then in his mind’s eye, he sees images of a city that no longer exists — and meets relatives who no longer live there. After more than twenty years, the filmmaker travels back to his lost homeland, from which he had to flee as a child during the Bosnian War. Heimweh traces the bewildering state of flight and in doing so, tells of the processing of a personal history — a process that is inherent to the film itself.
