Souvenirs

Some play war with wooden rifles, others train for one with real guns. In this early 16mm silent film, Lisl Ponger assembles scenes of Latin American children with shots of marching soldiers. In between, a photographer arranges a group of people for a souvenir photo. Slowly, the individual scenes themselves turn into memories of the respective others—with the gaps that are characteristic of memory. And into illusions, such as those in which Nazi officers turn out to be extras for film shootings.
