They know what they’re doing. Amoral, super-rich people chase poor Sans Papiers in a game of life and death. In their satire, Daniel Hoesl and Julia Niemann show that cruelty is gaining pleasure from the suffering of others. Veni Vidi Vici is a sarcastic indictment of decadence and whitewashing through mindfulness and the rhetoric of diversity, but also a play on the desire for the forbidden—and the audience’s desire. In this respect, it’s a film that holds us all accountable.
