In her fourth feature film, Marie Kreutzer reinterprets the life of the famous Empress Elisabeth of Austria. Corsage tells the story of a woman with eating disorders, a fitness obsession, and depression in a midlife crisis whose resistance against her role as empress and the narrowness of the courtly corset is steadily growing. A powerful portrait devoted to the historical material with precisely dosed ruptures, anchoring the tragedy of a woman’s fate in the present.
