Hans Hoffmann (Franz Rogowski) spends nearly his entire life from the 1940s until the 1970s in prison. His crime is that he’s homosexual. He and the inmate Viktor (Georg Friedrich) share an unlikely friendship that gives both men hope. A melancholy film, which deals with the political and private as reciprocal, dys/functional systems, and is deeply stirring, no least due to the complex acting of its two leading actors.
