What will remain when humanity is gone? This question is at the base of Homo Sapiens, Nikolaus Geyrhalter’s homage to the decay of civilization’s already expended but not yet extinct remains. Humans are extinct, but what they have left behind shapes a picture of a species that left its mark at all points of the compass, deep in the earth, and on iced-over mountain tops: a document of a world in which we already no longer play a role.
