Simon longs for it. Ellen longs for it. Peter does too. But what exactly they are longing for remains unspoken. Perhaps they no longer want anything at all. Their daily lives pass in silence – devoid of communication and fraught with loneliness. One day Simon’s father says, “You are just like your mother,” and then up and leaves him. In his wake there remains a trail of rage, despair and powerlessness that ends in a grave act of irrational aggression.
