Mograbi warns us from the start that August in Israel is the most atrocious month of the year. Everything we go on to see underscores this view, namely the attacks he is subjected to while filming. Time and again we witness people talking over each other; another metaphor for the Middle East conflict. Parallel to this, we see the filmmaker’s performative act in which he slips into different roles, managing to transcend his surroundings through the integration of surrealistic elements.
