In Frank Capra’s gothic comedy Arsenic and Old Lace, based on the eponymous theatre success, Peter Lorre opts for a humorous approach: It concerns the shady plastic surgeon Dr. Einstein, with lazy lidded eyes, few expressions and an ominously mild tone of voice. While he gives the unsettling impression of a murderer, it is the two charming lace-clad ladies who are the true culprits.
