On the fulfillment and failure of the power a grown man possesses over a child. Michael is an insurance salesman, competent but unassuming. He has no family ties, no social life to speak of. The only person in his life is a young boy, who Michael has imprisoned in his basement and abuses as he wishes. Michael is not a film about motives; it is about the vulnerability of the abuser, about the inability of maintaining relationships with others.
