In Erwin Wagenhofer’s But Beautiful, Erich Graf, who together with his wife has established a permaculture farm on La Palma, says, “A seriously ill patient, can we still squeeze something out of it?” The seriously ill patient in question is planet Earth—but also just as much, its inhabitants. Wagenhofer shows people who no longer want to squeeze out something—from themselves or others. But Beautiful gives testimony to their concepts of life, far away from consumption and instant gratification.
