Inspired by French philosopher Jean-Luc Nancy’s short autobiographical book about his heart transplant, Denis’ compelling, elliptical masterpiece is her most formally adventurous film. L’intrus opens in a remote area near the French-Swiss border, where the mysterious Louis Trebor lives in a cabin on the snowy mountainside with only his two beloved dogs for company (…) Trebor’s shady past is gradually revealed as he embarks on a globetrotting odyssey that takes him from Geneva to Pusan to the South Seas, seeking to arrange a black-market heart transplant and reconnect with his long-lost son.
