Thomas Heise pursues the history of his family based on a number of mainly private documents from the early twentieth century until the present. The film follows these family testimonies of extremely personal moments; it touches on, thwarts, and is also always part of the major events of German history. As time goes on, a contemplative pull develops, which derives no least from the dialogue of the intimate with the political.
