Uncomfortably Comfortable

Film portraits of marginalized protagonists can be deeply uncomfortable undertakings. With a small, digital camera, Maria Petschnic spent one year accompanying the daily life of Marc Thompsan, who has been living without permanent housing in his car on the streets of New York for twenty months. In a shared process, a film emerges that addresses traumatic memory, racist victimization, and structural violence—and at the same time, interrogates the conditions of documentation, exposure, and exploitation.
