Winter Brothers / Vinterbrødre

Hlynur Pálmason’s first, multi-award-winning feature film follows two brothers who work in a limestone mine in a remote area. Emil (Elliott Crosset Hove) distills schnapps, which everyone drinks, and which takes the lives of some. Otherwise, he tries to find his place in a man’s world between the dark tunnels and glistening winter landscape in which he remains a comically confused outsider. A film full of contrasts that is expressive yet nonetheless calm. Powerful stuff.
