Casino Municipale, in Campione d’Italia, an Italian enclave in Switzerland, was once the largest gambling house in Europe. Today it looks like a monument to a lost empire. Following the stages in Dante’s Göttlicher Komödie , Daniel Hoesl unfurls an evocative essay on the connections between gambling, financial capital, and religion. The casino itself becomes the (Italian speaking) chronicler of its eventful history. Apocalypse or revolution?
