DATES:
Austroschwarz by Mwita Mataro and Helmut Karner
| June 25, 2025 at 7 p.m. | Dieselkino Gleisdorf |
In the presence of co-director Mwita Mataro, producer Stephan Herzog & the festival directors
Black Austrians are not only confronted with exotic attributions and prejudices, but also constantly receive unwanted attention. Playing with children, in conversations with psychologists, and with his father’s wise advice on the search for truth, Mwita Mataro as protagonist and co-director talks about childhood memories of Lake Fuschl, recalls the killing of Marcus Omofuma, and tells of being fed-up with anti-racist art projects.
Callas, Darling by Julia Windischbauer
| July 20, 2025 at 9.30 p.m. | Kino wie noch nie, Vienna |
In the presence of the filmmaker & the festival directors
She appears out of the blue, at a gas station in the middle of nowhere, after a break in a drive to nowhere in particular. Marie is behind the wheel, but suddenly she is no longer alone in the car. Gerlinde becomes her passenger, confidante, and friend. The encounter begins to change both of their lives. Soon they are heading south, towards the Balkans, as though all questions about the future will be decided there. A road movie in the truest sense of the genre: the external journey becomes an internal one.
Sugarland by Isabella Brunäcker
| August 20, 2025 at 8 p.m. | Summer Movies auf der Murinsel Graz |
In the presence of the filmmaker & the festival directors
Iga, who recently broke up with her boyfriend, is driving in her car. Via monotonous highways and cheap accommodations, she travels from her home in Austria to Scotland. Along the way, she picks up Ethan, an Englishman who is a bit older and appears to be living a precarious, vagabond life. After initial hesitation on the part of both, the two travelers slowly get closer—until the film takes a surprising turn shortly before the English Channel.
