It is a dissident statement that, in the current situation of the Russian exiles whose lives the film traces, is almost entirely lost. The sounds Nosenko develops over the course of the film correspond to its theme of dissolved connections, yet within this state \u2014 much like the artificial visual spaces, the costumes, and the production design \u2014 they find an idiosyncratic freedom that slips away from fixed attributions and identities.
