Jury statement:<\/p>\n
The film Baba, what\u2019s your plan?<\/em> takes us on a journey: footage shot in rural Turkey, family photographs, and conversations between son and father \u2013 which take place at various locations in the area between Wels and Linz \u2013 are just a few of the highlights of this intimate and sincere portrait, which director Tolga Karaaslan has created of, through and with his father. Despite its warmth and intimacy, the film rejects any form of voyeurism and creates a cross-generational exploration of the family\u2019s history between father and son, with the father\u2019s voice remaining the central voice of the narrative, spoken with respectful devotion. This cinematic portrait tells of (chronic) illness, migration, hope, and of losing the latter only to find it anew time and again \u2013 even under the most challenging circumstances. With his film, Tolga Karaaslan is able to offer hope to others too, particularly as it emphasises the multifaceted nature of being human, whilst also making clear just how much one can learn through sincere dialogue with and amongst one another.<\/p>\n
The film award aims to preserve the memory of activist Martin Habacher (1977\u20132019), to strengthen an inclusive film culture, and to promote non-discriminatory visual language. The prize honors an outstanding film that inclusively represents people with disabilities and thereby helps reduce barriers in society. The prize money is intended for the development of the winner\u2019s next project.
