Alfred Kaiser: Kaiserschnitt \u00a9 Sammlung \u00d6sterreichisches Filmmuseum<\/p><\/div>\n

Filmmaker, painter, composer, musician, and writer: with the freshly restored work of Alfred Kaiser<\/strong> (1940\u20131994), the Austrian film museum presents a figure from local film history who is little known despite his diverse artistic talents. His works present radical versions of documentary cinema: A pioneering oeuvre, shown on the big screen for the first time in a long time. Not to be missed!<\/p>\n

Special Program: The Exiled Avant-garde<\/h3>\n

Presented by SYNEMA
\nThe series of historic films entitled FilmExil, courtesy of the seasoned cooperation with Synema, draws on filmmakers with Austrian roots who were driven out by the National Socialists.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cA film is art when an independent artist works on it,\u201d according to Alexander Hackenschmied, enthusiastic avant-gardist in Prague of the 1930s and later a trailblazer in independent cinema in the U.S. His pioneering work Bezu\u0301c\u030celna\u0301 procha\u0301zka offers the start to the historical series. Three programs commemorate several (old-)Austrian filmmakers who shaped innovative cinema in its early days, before they were forced to leave their places of work in Berlin, Vienna, Budapest, and Prague.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Film as history. History in film: Along a broad spectrum of different types of films, such as trailers, weekly overview reports, avant-garde and feature films, in three chapters, the Filmarchiv Austria pursues the changeful charged relationship of film and history\u2014including shifts in perspective and agitation: from the trauma of World War I and its expression in film to the politically contested 1930s and the postwar era through to the present. Naturally, numerous gems from the archive will surface on this journey through time.<\/p>\n
