Bosnia-Herzegovina, almost 15 years after the war. As silent witness, Clarissa Thieme examines the former scenes of war crimes, which she captures in prolonged, static long shots. The beauty and banal everydayness is shown in stark contrast to its historical baggage. What Remains tells of empty places which have been created by war and violence, and in this way functions as a filmic commemoration that surpasses the limits of representation and understanding.
