Peter Kern’s biography is unconventional, his film appropriately unorthodox. In Kern, once again the enfant terrible of film directing shows his belligerent side: “The only thing achieved so far is a search for camera angles with no microphones, nothing more than sticking a camera on some fatso.” Unfazed, Franz and Fiala continue filming, with the full support of the subject – and gradually shape a very intimate portrait of a maverick in every sense: in form, in essence, and in his very person.
