Valentina Primavera’s story is an utterly personal one: with a hand camera, the filmmaker accompanies her mother back to Italy. After forty years of a marriage, domestic violence, and silence, her mother finally wants to leave her husband. With unrelenting honesty, Primavera draws a complex family portrait that is also telling in terms of the structures of domestic violence. She takes a remarkably brave stand against looking away.
