With Amour Fou, Jessica Hausner works within a historical setting. The tragicomedy is set in Berlin in 1810/11 and is inspired by the double suicide of the poet Heinrich von Kleist and his girlfriend Henriette Vogel. The historic placing of the narrative demands, no least, an elaborate production and costume design. An unusual challenge for the set designer Katharina Wöppermann, and costume designer Tanja Hausner—the filmmaker’s sister and steadfast collaborator.
