In 1946, under protection of the American military police, Dr. Bernhart, a former resistance fighter, travels from Paris to Berlin. On the train a bomb goes off, and a band of Nazis kidnaps him. The German version of the film was altered: Nazis are replaced with smugglers; Dr. Bernhart is instead an art collector.
