To the music of a metal-miniature piece composed expressly for this work, the film’s hero in Chaplin’s The Floorwalker finds himself pursued by a monstrous giant. Running down an up escalator and accompanied by the strokes on a guitar as a counterpoint, his legs seem to be racing at a standstill. To this, Pfaffenbichler meticulously adds a blend of close-ups and wide shots, positive/negative images, and coloring. Intermezzo captures creepiness in double-quick time. Remix culture at its best.
